We have found out Sheryl is battling Covid19. She is out of ICU but still in the hospital. In the past Sheryl was in charge of space appropriations for Monroe Airshow. This may delay our finding out if we have enough room for all our displays.

Will we still be able to have some displays?

Will we still be able to have some displays? We don't know until we're informed on how much space we get. We will pack as much into the space as we can. Priority is to the kitchen and accommodations for the troops staying on site.
If we can't get the space to set up or the event is cancelled we'll have to go somewhere else.
With the size of our unit we can't wait until the last minute to find we don't have space or the event is cancelled.
Remember always use PACE when planning.

I kind of figured that Cheryl had Covid, and I don’t know what the program is going to be. I, personally, had planned on being there with the kitchen, but need soil to put the tent stakes in, not concrete blocks.
As an alternative Fort Smith would be suitable. No planes buzzing overhead, but we could plan other activities. Just my two cents worth.

Went by Charlotte Monroe Airport Friday, for Frank to look at the field site we use to setup in. There is a huge hanger built all most in the center of the field, which covers where the Germans setup, but the problem is there is a large concrete driveway that runs from the building to the access road to the runway, which is where we use to camp. I shared this with Frank Friday while I was out there, if the chopper rides are out there, space will be hard to find, if none. Ralph

Google Maps is showing the new hanger and some of the new paving. Take out the ditch that runs alongside the Taxi way, where the choppers take off/land, new building and paving it looks to be getting a little crowded for set up room.

This was the basic area we had last time. The reenactor units pretty much filled the area. The new building and paving are not showing on the County GIS pictures yet. Attachments:

This gives you an idea of the problem we are facing.
Monroe is a popular event with C/505 and we always get a good turnout when we attend.
The picture below shows the approximate footprint we had last time with limited displays, the kitchen, CP, wall tents, pup tents and squad tent.
Note - the county GIS has a poor measuring feature so it's kind of hit and miss on the distances.

Not trying to be "Doug the Downer" here, but using the Mk1 Mod 1 eyeballs with magnification, that doesn't look real promising.

I told Sheryl we needed 180 x 45. And yes, she is still very sick. Just checked with her.

As of today - 7 weeks until Monroe.
The CO has heard no call from the event coordinators for units attending or the space they'll require.
As the CO noted above we have submitted our space requirements but have had no reply as to it's status.

Sheryl continues to be hospitalized at this date: 8/17/21
I continue to think there will be only limited space for reenactors. They have however doubled the number of vendors that will be on site.
They also will not be moving the helicopter rides from their site.

The helicopters were in the large rectangle I posted above.
IIRC their space was just past the turnoff that connects the taxi way to the runway.

The Monroe event page has opened.
The CO has made contact with the reenactor coordinator and we have been given the thumbs up as to our space requirements.
