It's time to cut off those people eating with the mess. [br
How about the mess Capt? We will need help too, particularly tearing it down for transport.

Louis, the mess gets priority over personal tents and displays. When the decision to strike camp is made, all troopers are to attend to the mess first for assignment.

1. For the new guys wondering about unit canvas. Unit owned canvas is the squad tent, three flies, and a couple of beat up shelter halves. All the wall tents, other flies and pup tents that will be on site were individual purchases by individuals. If you wish better accommodations for yourself you may purchase you own canvas shelter.
2. Reminder - cots only in the squad tent. If you keep your stuff in a footlocker best to transfer it into a bag that goes under the cot. If you bring a footlocker and it doesn't fit under your cot it will be kept outside. Ground sleepers will be in pup tents. Plan on two per tent. If we have extra space that's fine well and good. If you have a pup tent bring it.

Gentlemen:
The 101st Recon has volunteered first to help with packing up the mess section, so I would suggest we allow them the opportunity. Some of the unoccupied 82nd members can help. Don't worry, there will be future events. Thanks Capt. Frank.

Packing up the mess for Monroe by the 101st is good. Other hands will be available to help as well. Advance planning
on camp teardown and packing is a great idea and should be part of all future event planning.

KP update - KP duty will be four people for Monroe. Two will be cooks assistants and the other two will be the KPs. The detail will report to Mess Sergeant Jenkins at the end of the previous meal. The mess sergeant will select two to be cooks assistants and the other two will be the KPs. He will also tell you when he wants each element to report to the Kitchen for duty.

1st Sgt Tent: 1st Sgt, Ronnie
Tent # 4: XO, Em

Pup Tents
If you have a pup tent bring it. Pup Tents are for the ground sleepers.
Fly
We will have an overflow fly. No FARB stuff showing. Every farby thing under the fly will be covered and the area will will be military neat during visiting hours.
Seriously Guys, our bunk capacity is going to be stretched to the limit. Think while you're packing - "Do I really need this?". Stand by for some shuffling Friday afternoon - if you get there late you may just have to take what space is remaining.

I believe we have 5 pup tents: Mine, Doc, Steve, Jim and Allen. Others? That is a good pup tent line!

Safety
Going to be hectic Friday afternoon. Some of the tents will have heaters in them.
Anybody staying in a tent with a heater has to be sure the head area is clear of any gear.
A little wind and a tent catches fire the rest of the tents down wind could go up in flames.
The fire will need to be well away from the tent & canvas line.

Attention C/505!
Couple of things to note as we close in on Monroe:
We may have limited space for the encampment, so we will be working harder than normal on Friday to ensure our canvas line is spaced and dressed appropriately. Anyone who can arrive midday or so, your help will be most welcome. We have a lot to put up and the better we get set up on Friday, the more comfortable we will be all weekend.
Upon arriving please report in to the S-1(CWO Meyer) to be verified as safely arrived, and then with the XO (1Lt Jones) for assignment to a camp build detail. Note that the Mess tent will require a bit of effort and extra personnel to help get set up, and should take priority before personal tents or Flys are put up. 1Sgt Peterson will be in charge of camp layout and any questions as to what needs to go where need to go through him. Please arrive Friday ready to pitch in and help everything get set up. Let's get the weekend started off in the right foot.
1Sgt Peterson is working on making sure tents are full and sleeping accommodations are provided for all troopers. That said, we can't assign you to a space if we don't know you need it. I can't stress enough how much you need to speak up if you need sleeping space. We have a squad tent that sleeps several guys, and it will be filled with cot sleepers (must bring your own cot) by eldest age first. Please ensure if you plan to sleep in the pyramid that your gear can be stowed in just your area. It very well may be cramped, but at least it will be warm. We also have several pup tents, two to a tent, and as a last resort sleeping free air under the flies. Just be aware it is not summer anymore...
Weather at this moment is trending at mid 60s during the day, and low to mid 40s at night. Be prepared to bring cool weather gear.
The event schedule looks to be jam packed, and that doesn't include just needing to have displays manned. If you are manning a display and must leave for a demo or just desire to check out the airshow, please make sure someone is there to relieve you. Do not leave things unsecured or in a way that something can be stolen, broken or a spectator can be injured. Responsibility is of the utmost importance. Also, if you note someone needs a break, offer to take over for a bit. Also, if you get a few minutes, take some time to check in with different displays and learn the basics. AIRBORNE Troopers were expected to be able to step in when there was a hole, and as such were crosstrained in many elements - we should be able to fill holes also when they open up or a brother or sister trooper needs a break.
The deadline for the mess is quickly approaching. Pay your 25.00 mess fee to Captain Cachia sooner rather than later. Everyone must have a meal ticket to eat. Don't count on leftovers or the generosity of our cooks for food if you don't pay. These guys are feeding over 40 people, they simply don't have time or resources for handouts. Pay your fees, get fed. It's worth it, I promise.
If you plan to eat the venue provided dinner, please let XO (me) know so the mess can plan for your absence.
Right now we are hearing that there will be somewhere in the area of 400 reenactors at this year's event. That means C/505 is providing a full 10% of the entire reenactor presence this year. While this is an amazing accomplishment, we need to keep in mind that *everyone* in our unit is an ambassador - and we reflect on one another with every decision we make. Remember the men we honor, and ensure that your actions are worthy of their memories.
Likely more to come. This is a massive event, and has incredible potential to be one to remember. We have several ideas for photos and being able to 'show off' why we are one of the largest and best units in the Carolinas. Stay tuned! If you have an idea, let me know so we can consider it!
I can't thank you all enough for being with us. It's time to start getting excited! I'll see you all at the DZ in under 2 weeks!
READY! H-MINUS! AATW!
-Jay
