Guys, it looks like we will have the far side of the field at this event.
That means the heavy camp will be in it's usual spot - behind German lines.
This will cause a number of logistical problems for those not staying on the line Friday night but ....
The biggest problem will be Friday night. The box goes hot at 2000 hrs so we'll be giving orders to the platoon elements at our platoon location (TBD) sometime around 1900 - 1930 hrs so we're ready at 2000 hrs.
Plan for your arrival time time to be well before 1900 so you can get checked in and moved over to the far side in plenty of time. If you show up late you may or may not get into action Friday night.
No showing up late, putting on your gear and wandering off into the dark by yourself shooting at anything that moves.

All set. 84th patch sewed on, bags packed musette, real deal and period medical, rations done, boots inbound. Now all we need is some real winter weather. If anyone has special medical issues that we might need to know make sure you get up with me , S/Sgt. Jenkins, or Mongo before we go hot.

We will have to attend the Safety Briefing in the Heavy Camp sometime prior to 2000 hrs Friday night.
We will form up in and move in a platoon formation (center squad forward) across the open field to the trail opening and transition to a tactical column for movement down the trail to the heavy camp area for the briefing. We will return to our lines the same way.
Order of deployment. 2 HQ 1 Mortar Team 3
One Salty Dog will remain in the platoon area to watch the heavy weapons and gear.

Have been cleared by docs to attend the event. Due to treatment schedule and without knowing how I'll react to the treatments I may not make it Thursday but hope to have a better idea before then.

Note from the event staff - read and heed - "Weather forecast up till Thursday Jan 28 chance of rain showers and snow. Which will present the event a possibility of difficulty with parking if the main field becomes too soft with moisture. Possible ways to remedy this is diagonal parking along main field access road and road along second property. Which means gear and personal may need to be ferried. If the ground is stable for parking but borderline we may have to limit access through the main camp and parking area by period vehicles. Last January the constant passage of the Jeeps turned some areas into a quagmire making it very difficult for POV's to leave the property. These are decisions that will be made on site on Thursday. Inform your people to be prepared for a little difficulty in accessing the field and camp areas.
Also, with temperatures in the mid 20's at night and wet conditions inform them to prepare properly. We will not micromanage the event and we expect the Adult participants to prepare accordingly. Those who choose to sleep in the field in these conditions without proper shelter of some sort will be doing so at their own risk. At the minimum a pup tent/ zelt is highly recommended. I understand the desire for authenticity but we must remember most of our participants are not acclimated for life in the field under these conditions. Unit leaders even those in "immersion" units may need to step up and ensure the safety of their members if said members allow their own sense of pride to stand in the way of common sense. These are not combat hardened veterans used to living in these conditions."
