This thread will be a reference of how to protect yourself from these nasty little buggers. Even though I find flies and Communists more repulsive these parasites can cause far more health issues. First thing is to dress properly. Ticks usually get their first shot at you from getting on your boots or trousers while walking in grass or brush. That being the case if we make their journey difficult we can win this battle. First thing...blouse your boots. We're Paratroopers. Blousing your boots is to keep the air out of your trousers on a jump but it also can keep these little sh-t's off you. Blousing is not just so the pretty girls think your something special even if you are. Next wear long johns under your trousers...tucked into your socks. I know "In the summer that can be hot". Yep it can, but again your a Paratrooper suck it up. Next wear a tight fitting undershirt. Make it hard for the little bastards to get under it. Last but certainly not least is chemicals. Permethrin! It's available in 1/2 gallon containers and aerosol sprays,( see attachments). Some of the products are to only be used on clothing and equipment. There are others that are a good secondary defense that can be applied directly to the skin like bug juice. Read the product labels. Once Permethrin dries it is safe to contact human skin and applied to tour ground cover and uniform will provide a barrier that these little sh-t's won't easily penetrant. The fact is we operate in the Southern US for the most part. Ticks are a fact of life and getting one to latch on can lead to some really terrible health issues. Read more about how to protect yourself. I always have the product that can be directly applied. At an event just come to me and I'll apply that barrier. Having said that it's only part of the process, it works better with all the other precautions. A ATW
