Brushless Shaving Cream and other stuff
Interesting article on period personal hygiene items from the WW II period plus a number of pictures of various products.
A good article to start stepping up your impression at Living History events.

Just a little basic info....
Shaving Soap came in a cake and you used the brush to lather it up, load the brush, apply to face and then shave.
Shaving cream was a cream that was produced by many different manufacturers. See article above for info and examples of tubes. You wet your face, applied a thin coat of the cream and then shaved. You can see this was much simpler than using the cake and brush under field conditions.
I picked up a container of shaving cream at the store today and will give it a try tomorrow AM with a fresh blade in the safety razor.

For reference here’s my shaving roll. It contains a razor, spare blades, mirror, solid cologne for quick smell good application, shaving cream and brush, toothpaste and a wood handle toothbrush I cut down to fit.

Got a real smooth shave this morning with the shave cream. Don't need a lot. I would assume the formula is not too different from period cream and could pass as such.
Got a tube on order from WWII Soldier and I'll see if I can fill it with the shave cream.

While a shave cream, Bigelow Shave Cream (and tube) date from the 1990's.
A stitch counter may call you out if you put the tube out for display.

I agree it’s not correct to the stitch counter or museum display however it does work for tacticals or foxhole events where you aren’t really displaying your entire setup so much as actually using it, my display shave soap is a cake in a metal dish. It all depends on what I’m living out of that weekend wether it be my field pack or my footlocker

.............. or my footlocker Speaking of footlocker - I still got that one for you.
Needs painting and trays but it's the big one with metal trim.

Recently picked up a GI foot powder tin, I replaced the contents with modern foot powder so as to still be able to use the tin in the field for the all important ritual of changing socks
