Great posts. I have mostly P-38's but a P-51 works some much better.

If you guys are hungry you can always go with beans - NO POP TOPS.
Get a can of beans and replace the label with this one.
Let me know if you can't get the .docx to load and print for you. I'm working off my Mac.
I have labels for pretty much all of the stuff that came in the small cans.

Yeah I put a '38 in the box too. But I like using a '51 better. Same basic item jut bigger, more leverage and for some reason I get them to grip the roll better, less slipping.

Coffee, and in fact all the drinks are a little tricky. The lemon powder and bouillon drinks pretty much follow the coffee process.
If you've been saving your MRE coffee packs (upper left) you can either use it as is or glue a period label over it (lower left).
If you don't have the MRE coffee packs you have to go the hard road. I've gone down it so I'll try and save you some experimentation.
You need to go to the 90th ID web link and print out labels (this applies to coffee, powder and bouillon).
You will waste a row of labels but cut so you have two rows and one row. Throw away the 1 row. Fold it in half so you have a long single row on one side and a reversed long single row on the other side. I tried cutting out single rows and gluing them on all four sides but the bottoms kept blowing out. This saves you from having to glue the bottoms. At this point you need to size it with the amount of drink you want to put in it. Cut the individual packages to size and glue the sides. When dry put in the drink and glue the top.
Point of note - you are putting it in a paper wrapper. If you make these up a long time in advance the contents will lump and harden. Place these and the chewy bar in small zip locks until the day of the event and you load your box.
If you want to get kinda' half way there you can insert single serving packs into the wrapper. My thought is "If you go that route why bother with the outer wrapper?"
A little recent insight on this. At Lugoff Saturday afternoon waiting for the Germans that never came I had the K ration Supper I packed and used the Kool Aid lemon powder I diligently repackaged to look correct. Anyway Kool Aid 0 calorie Lemon powder tastes something like horse piss I would assume. I've never had horse piss of course but I'm quite sure it could not be worse. I'm going to find an alternative but heads up...don't use Kool Aid 0 calorie.

J Coyle, pick up a box of True Lemon powder. Come in various flavors including lemon aid. Tear it open and add it to the packet you’re making. Flavors approx 14 oz of water.

For people making their own K's I've been doing so and one thing I've had to deal with is the inner box and it's durability. I've been making the inner out of old cereal boxes. I usually carry the day's unit in my pocket and the outer box does take a beating but it's still reusable. The inner is just trash. I'm trying this time to use old milk cartons. Seems they should be studier. I'll know after Enfield.

Try waxing at least the outside of the inner box - best done before you fold and glue it together. Will make it stiffer and help keep the contents dry.

A source for the more period ( don't know the dates) cans.
Plenty of time for a few guys to get together and get a few.

I ordered a canteen cup heater should be here in a few days. I'm looking locally for Esbit tabs. REI said they had them but they didn't. I will eventually get a period correct stove like First Sgt., and S/Sgt. Jenkins and a few others have but for now this will do. When camping I use a MSR Wisperjet and Jetboil since I never light a fire. Just a modern version of the WWII technology.

The next item is dessert.
I get this Chewy Bar that can be found in the gluten free section of the store. Kinda' like a brownie.
I wrap it in the alternate wrapping for the 2 oz D Bar.
The reason I use this is because it does not melt in the summer and turn into a brick in winter. It's a quick and easy box filler.
Some of the lads have had these and given them a thumbs up.
Found these in Publix Also picked up a box of book matches. Too many for me to use in this lifetime. I'll bring them along if anyone is needing them for their K's

Found these in Publix Also picked up a box of book matches. Too many for me to use in this lifetime. I'll bring them along if anyone is needing them for their K's The hardest thing about making the period matches is finding a stiff paper, almost light cardboard like the matchbook covers in a shade that will kinda' work as OD.
The rest is easy - but a tad tedious. Print out a sheet of match book covers from the 90th ID site, cut them apart, separate the matches from their old book and cut off the striker pad real close to the edge. If you can, cut it on about a 45 degree angle so you don't see as much of the edge. Then you fold the "new" cover and staple the pad of matches into it. Then glue the striker to the front of the matchbook.
The last time I was out hunting paper the ODish poster board only came in larger sheets - which had to be cut down to 8 1/2 by 11 so I could run it through the printer.
