This is some information that came down the pipe from the Airborne Demonstration Team page for simulating the CC2 look to your uniforms. I'm crediting the authors both of whom are in the industry creating reproduction gear pieces and/or providing rigger detail services to upgrade your "off-the-shelf" M42 uniforms.
Keith Bunger (makes reproduction equipment pieces)
Otter Wax (BARS) purchased on-line. Takes about 2 bars to cover an M42 uniform. Rub the bars across the M42 uniform as evenly as possible while laid out flat. You can then either heat the uniform with a blow dryer or low setting heat gun, other easy alternative is put them in the dryer. Guys that have completed it in this manner have indicated no issues with dryer getting messed up etc. in the aftermath. This is a bit more expensive then the below method.
Ryan Kergides (does Museum level work on Airborne uniforms)
Buy a large container of petroleum jelly. Using a butter knife spread a thin amount of petroleum jelly onto the uniform evenly. Let it melt in naturally or leave it in the sun. 6 bucks and a couple hours of your day. Cheap and effective. The otter wax route I think looks a little better but is much more pricey and time consuming. For the white chemical residue appearance, take wall spackle and mix it with water then apply with a small paint brush along the uniform sleeves and stitches. For some reason the white residue particularly dried right along the edges of the canvas reinforcement on the elbows and knees so be sure to "paint" those. This will flak off or wash off over time so periodically reapplication of the spackle will be necessary. Once it dries if you missed any spots just reapply Vaseline to those areas to fill it in.
This same process will work on GP bags, rigger pouches etc. to give them an aged look.
