3rd Annual Military History Event- Oxford NC. October 27th

Carrying this over from the old forum.   This is a go rain or shine; just reinforced by the organizer.  The weather unfortunately looks rough with highs only in the mid-forties and chance of rain varying from 70-85%. 

 

Be sure to dress warm with change of clothes for the drive home.  There is a restroom inside the airport operations center you can use to change clothes etc.   Will post any updates here. 

Set-up is the grassy area directly adjacent to the Airport Operation Center, you can drive out on the edge of the tarmac to drop off equipment/ display items and then move to park on opposite side of building.   

This has been a very good event the past two years and is growing. The weather being a bit cooler makes for a great day to interact with the public. Very good public turnout as well.

All Military timelines were represented at past two events. Vehicles and static displays with public weapons demonstrations scheduled for afternoon. Food Vendors on site.

Have you lined up somebody with a fly yet?

If not I could bring mine.  Try and get there early before everybody gets too wet.

I thought somebody mentioned bringing one but that was in the old forum discussion group. Based of weather we will definitely need one. The word was rain or shine from the organizer but that might be wishful thinking, all day rain and cold likely means no spectators and no vendors. I'll keep the thread updated if something breaks.

I've altered my plans to bring my period footlocker like I displayed last year, just cant risk getting the period stuff wet. Will just bring my chute/reserve/mae west for demos.

Takes me about 1:15 to get up to RDU.  I'll give myself another :45 to get up to the airport.  If i'm early I'll find somewhere with coffee.

What time you want the fly on site?

Since I'm old I'll probably bring a table, chair and small stove.

Alright Top I'm an hour out so I'm arriving at 9am. There was coffee in the Airport ops building last year was well.

We can keep our equipment stowed in the vehicles until the fly is set-up first and then deploy. I'll bring a chair and table as well.

Ok, will be packing this afternoon.  Fly, no side poles, table, chair, K Ration box with D Day stuff like mine, flag (both types), cricket, rope, gloves, knife, pocket knife and squad stove.  Anything else needed other than the stuff you guys are bringing?
