Care must be taken when asking for information on the WW II reenactors help page. The accuracy of the posters should not be taken as truth unless you do some research on your own.
There is an active thread running on T Shirts, tank top verses T Shirt. One claim is 90% of undershirts were tank tops either white or green while only 10% were white T Shirts. I've heard claims of "No white T Shirts after D Day" and other such claims. With only the top button of the shirt undone or when wearing the sweater or jackets it's hard to tell what the soldier was wearing as an undershirt.
It is best to do your own research of your specific unit.
Below is a picture taken during Market Garden of 505th Members. Better picture is out there but I grabbed this screen shot off the dust jacket of No Better Place to Die. Seven individuals. Two are buttoned up, two may be tank tops but three are clearly wearing White T Shirts. Three out of seven is at least 43%.

Having heard a lot of things I've discovered it is best to look a photos first, and then at commissary returns. Picture proof always works.

Now here is a white tank top from Operation Husky (MTO). Shows the low neck line. Also interesting helmet net.
